Before the end of this year, these countries are expected to sign a military cooperation agreement.

On Monday, Laureano Ortega Murillo, Nicaragua’s envoy for relations with Russia, met in Moscow with Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the Russian Parliament’s Lower House, to discuss economic, legal, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

“Despite global challenges, our cooperation is growing stronger. We have come to understand each other better, united in the face of shared challenges, and have done everything possible to overcome them,” Volodin said.

Ortega Murillo — son of Nicaragua’s co-presidents, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo — focused his remarks on his recent participation in Victory Day commemorations on May 9. “Through this, we wanted to emphasize that we are very grateful to the Russian people for liberating us from fascism and Nazism,” he said.

Volodin and Ortega Murillo also discussed the upcoming meeting of the bilateral cooperation commission. Currently, Moscow and Managua are working to establish a legal framework for interparliamentary cooperation.

Before the end of this year, Russia and Nicaragua are expected to sign a military cooperation agreement, which received Kremlin approval in 2024. Earlier this year, the two countries signed a cybersecurity training cooperation agreement.
